What is Modern Jive

Modern Jive is a fun, energetic and stylish partner dance. Don't confuse it with the old-style rock 'n' roll jive as Modern Jive can be danced to almost every style of music - latin, rock, soul and pop are just some of the musical genres to be heard on this particular dancefloor.

Gone are the days when you arrived with a dance partner and stuck with them. Nowadays, the whole dancefloor is filled with potential dance partners. And, Ladies, don't think you have to wait to be asked - the code is - if you wanna dance, you go and ask.

Blitz runs three main types of events:

  • Class Nights

  • Freestyles

  • Workshops

Class Nights

If you have never done any Modern Jive before, your first taste of it will probably be in a Beginners Class at a Class Night. Just dress casually, turn up at 7.30pm and partner up with someone on the dance floor. It's that simple - no booking required, no searching around for a 'dance partner' and absolutely no previous experience required!

Freestyles

Once you have got a few dance moves in your repertoire, you will want to go somewhere to practice or, if you are feeling confident, to show them off. Our freestyle nights are just the place and often include a short fun class to kick off the night. You can find out more about where and when these freestyle take place by looking at the diary

Workshops

You may want to accelerate your pace of learning a little faster than once or twice a week and this is where the jive workshops will help you. Held over the weekend, they generally last some 4 hours and are an intensive class where an instructor teaches just 10 men and 10 ladies. For locations and times of workshops, go to diary

More details on the types of workshop available are listed below:

Beginners

The aim of the course is to give you confidence dancing the beginners' moves. Anyone who has done less than 5 or 6 lessons will find this course very useful.
